01 | Developing an Understanding of the Present Scenario
Understanding the city, its evolution and its pattern of dwelling. Essential social, economical and political factors that drive City Level changes. Impacts of which are felt way beyond their geographical boundaries. These factors in some way affects the state of architecture that is developed within our cities.
Delhi has been a pivot of Trade & Commerce in Northern India. The CBD has been flourishing for over a century now, along with multiple District & Suburban Centers as the city continues to sprawl in the rurality of Haryana & UP.
The city of Mumbai has constantly evolved in its Urban Fabric and continues to. However, it being the largest work magnet, attracts a lot of people. Housing Shortage has been a critical concern since the past 2 decades now.
Health Tourism & Winter Sports account for majority employment in the Country. However, with a rising number of international tourists, the alpine region has been facing degradation.
Intuitive Inferences scooped out of an intensive research can bring up interesting relations of the scope of future and possible links to the project with it. These links tend to get crucial when a project is designed to last.
02 | Analyzing the Future Scenario
Analysis of the Future holds more significance in projects of Greenfield typology, where in there is a larger scope of alignment towards a future response through Architecture.
There a possibility of FAR explosion within the City which seems to continually develop on the commercial side. Housing within the city could be more transient and work oriented, whereas in outskirts (Navi Mumbai, Alibaug etc.) it could be taken up by the City Elites, in the future.
Wellness is a flouring industry, the method of wellness though continues of evolve. Soft Wellness is a trend that might come up in the future, as suggested by the Global Wellness Institute. Research of future is limited due to the project being a competition.
03 | Understanding the Concern
Concerns are thoughts that form theories or basis of actions. These may or may not directly relate to Architecture but have the potential to be the driving force of Design.
The abandoned building occupies a prime spot, it sits in the face of the community as a concern, it can form a sensible urban connection at a larger level.

The building appears to be structurally strong & fairly flexible to able to be reused as an asset rather than a demolition.
Residences are designed keeping in mind individual preferences which are dynamic.
Buildings too should be dynamic & open to change.

Bungalow Typology in the city is a rare occurrence, Building low density in Mumbai may not be sustainable.
Development towards tourist interests is destroying the very amenities that are necessary to fulfill their purpose of physical and mental wellbeing.

Causing irreversible change to the alpine environment.
Important to have an emotional and experiential account of the immediate community, likely to get affected by the project. This helps in discovering its larger intent. For this, an online survey was carried out.
04 | Understanding the Community / User Group
A survey was conducted to take an account of peoples' memories associated with the Campa Cola Factory.
In a different Survey, 60% of the people preferred renovating an existing building. The following conclusions as to why they prefer renovations were found:
A survey spelt out the feelings and emotional values associated with having a new house.

It gave an understanding of what the community, generally aspires from it.
No Survey was conducted due to the project being a competition entry.
