We are placed in a very Diverse context, what we build / design should Justify the Context by further embracing it. It is important to Build Consciously.

Design and Building decisions should be informed about Why, What and How we want to build. It is always a conscious choice we make at every stage.

Ideology Part 2

Existing physical infrastructure which is under-utilized holds a strong potential to be put to careful use, by extracting a program that arises out of needs of the community.

It is important to value the Energy embodied in Existing infrastructure and retain as much as we can.

This will help align our design response towards the future. It would allow us to sensitively adapt to the demands of the changing times.

It would also help channelize the efforts and energy in building anew only when and where it becomes necessary.

Give people buildings that they can easily adapt to.

A. Lacaton & J. Vassal

You don’t really gain anything by demolishing an edifice and rebuilding it in the same place with a contemporary look.

It is important to make buildings in which users find freedom

John Habraken

A building has multiple Layers. Site, Structure, Skin, Systems, Spaces and Stuff. Interchangeability between these  should be smooth, without disturbing much in the rest of the building. A change in a faster layer should not be hindered by the slower.
